President’s
Report: President Shine espoused the advantages of
networking within our organization. He
spoke to the importance of attending events and being visible both within our
NJ Chapter and with other regional chapters that we remain connected to. President Shine looks forward to the April
visit of Dr. John Leininger to NJ. His
half-day workshop on “In Design” will be followed by a special evening
presentation on the topic “ink and substrates.”
All members are reminded that the deadline will soon be upon us for
entry submission for the “2005 International Gallery of Superb Printing.” Participation in this prestigious awards
competition is strongly encouraged as a means to showcase your finest
work. Please contact President Shine or
Steve Gleich (Regional Gallery Chair) for details &/or assistance.
Budget
Report: President Shine reported
that final details of the budget are near completion.
Sergeant-At-Arms
Report: There were 39 attendees for the February
presentation hosted by AGFA, and 26 attendees at the March presentation by
MAN-Roland.
Scholarship
Report: Ira Shore has furnished the board an updated
list of scholarship recipients who wish to reapply for scholarship funds.
Membership
Report: Mario Benvenuti and Tim
Dalton have lent their assistance to Len Vadala in reaching out to prospective
new members. The board has considered
formulating (or procuring) a list of prospective members we can target by a
mailing. It was suggested that AGC could
be a valuable resource for assistance in building such a list. The board may also compile an extensive list
through our own existing industry contacts.
Programs:
“In-Design,”
to be followed by an evening program on the topic of “Ink & Substrates.
Publicity: The board will take steps to ensure that our
website schedule becomes completely up to date.
The Printing News requires better advance notice if it is to
publicize our events. It should be made
a priority to provide more adequate notice on events, even if specific details
have not yet been confirmed.
Gallery: The board reviewed a form letter to consider mailing
out along with Call For Entry (CFE) forms.
President Shine will compose a letter more relevant to our NJ Chapter
that will be mailed out to prospective entrants in conjunction with the CFE.

President Al Zowada reported at length on his participation at February’s IAPHC
Mid-Winter Meeting. The meetings focused
on measures being taken to better streamline the IAPHC. Its organizational hierarchy going forward
will more resemble a business than it had in the past. Descriptions of Director’s (formally
Governors) responsibilities have been clearly outlined. Also of note are the creation of the Director
at Large position and the broadening of influence that may be exercised by the IAPHC
President/CEO. While much discussion
focused on ways to generate additional revenues, it was widely acknowledged
that Gallery will continue to serve as its primary revenue source. The new geographic realignment was also the
subject of much discussion. Our NJ
Chapter is now part of a greater region encompassing cities as far as Buffalo
and Montreal. Overall we can expect our
affiliation with IAPHC to greatly enhance the value we presently bring to our
members with such programs as “Bridges” and the many “Webinars” being offered.
This
year’s IAPHC Conference will be held August 10-13, 2005 at the Sawgrass
Marriott Resort & Beach Club, 1000 PGA Tour Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach,
Florida
It
was announced that the 2006 IAPHC International Convention will be held in
Cancun, Mexico.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 PM.
