New Jersey Chapter of Printing House Craftsmen
IAPHC - The Graphic Professionals Resource Network
Minutes – Executive Committee
Date: March 16, 2006

Attending: Andy Shine, Steve Gleich, Marty Levinson, Mario Benvenuti, Bill Van Jura, Len Vadala, Tim Dalton, Tom Pini, Jack Blewitt, Sheila Blewitt and Bob Hipp.

President Andy Shine called the meeting to order at 6:15 P.M.

President’s Report: President Shine expressed appreciation to those who have contributed to put together our monthly programs. Special thanks to Len Vadala for coordinating our March 9th panel discussion, on plastics printing which was attended by 80 people. Thanks also to ManRoland, Superior Ink and GPA for participating on the panel. President Shine also extended congratulations to Sandy Alexander for receiving two “Best of the Best” awards in this past year’s International Gallery of Superb Printing Competition.

Treasurer’s Report: A report was submitted by Marty Levinson and accepted by the board.

Membership Report: Mario Benvenuti plans to contact several interested prospects that attended our March program. Bob Hipp suggested that existing members must recruit their younger colleagues especially, as they will benefit most by their association with our chapter (through the many networking opportunities that are presented). So as not to discourage member prospects this late in the season, for the remainder of our calendar year if a new member should sign up their membership will be carried through to next year. The board also discussed strategies/tactics aimed to support member retention (and handle those members delinquent with dues payment).

Education/Scholarship: At the March program members were reminded that all are eligible for an educational benefit of up to $200 reimbursement towards completed coursework (if relevant to ones livelihood in our industry). Any and all requests should be submitted to the board for prior approval.

Restructuring Committee: Committee Chair Bill Van Jura presented his report outlining the framework of what was discussed at the previous meeting. The committee will work to form an action plan and will propose its formal recommendations to the board by May.

Programs:
April 20th – Tim Dalton is coordinating a facility tour, in conjunction with an educational seminar at Beta Industries, manufacturers of quality control and color management instruments.
May 11th – To compliment our annual Induction of Officers, the board will contact Sappi Paper, to present a program on the topic of Varnishing Techniques.
June 20th (Tuesday) – Annual Golf Outing.
The board also looks forward to kicking off our Fall season in October, with a digital print facility tour at TBC Color Imaging.

The following is the slate of officers for next year:
President (Tim Dalton), 1st Vice Pres (Andy Shine), 2nd Vice Pres (Open), Treasurer (Marty Levinson),
Sergeant-at-Arms (Alice Lynch), Financial Secretary (Sheila Blewitt), Secretary (Steve Gleich).

Publicity: Tim Dalton noted that our programs are now posted on the AGC website. Tim also advised the board that he will continue to explore the possibility of engaging a professional, for the purpose of generating much needed publicity for our chapter.

Gallery: Committee Chair Steve Gleich reported that 2006 CFE’s have been received. Len Vadala commented on the recent IAPHC “Communicator” insert entitled “Why Printing Awards Matter,” which eloquently and concisely makes a compelling argument for everyone to participate in Gallery

New Business: President Shine reminded all officers of the importance in being able to find replacements for themselves by the end of the next year.

Health & Welfare: The board is saddened to note the passing of former Craftsmen Bill Davenport.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45PM
