IAPHC - The Graphic Professionals Resource Network
Minutes – Executive Committee
Date: April 27, 2006
Attending: Andy Shine, Steve Gleich, Mario Benvenuti, Len Vadala, Tim Dalton, Tom Pini, Jack Blewitt, Joe Rego and Bob Hipp.
President Andy Shine called the meeting to order at 6:15 P.M.
President’s Report: President Shine recognized the need for our club to continue seeking new and innovative programs. He noted the work of committee members focused on maintaining the quality level of these programs into next year. In response to the IAPHC announcement of a substantial increase in dues, President Shine has solicited many opinions amongst our membership. Since this is an issue of great concern to many, he noted that the board plans to weigh all available options and achieve a consensus that will be in the best long-term interest of our club. Our May program will feature Sappi Papers, and will include officer inductions as well as a special Craftsman of the Year Award.
Treasurer’s Report: A report was submitted by Marty Levinson and accepted
by the board.
Membership Report: Committee Chair Len Vadala reported that 3 new members
signed up at our March 9th program. Tim Dalton noted that year to date, we
have done an excellent job of attracting new members.
Restructuring Committee: President Shine reviewed Committee Chair Bill Van Jura’s report of the committee’s March meeting, where the framework for an action plan was constructed. The committee will finalize its action plan, and propose formal recommendations to the board sometime in May.
Sergeant-At-Arms: There were a total of 27 attendees at the April 20th Dinner Program.
Programs: May 11th – Sappi Paper will present on Varnishing Techniques, along
with officer inductions.
June 20th (Tuesday) – Annual Golf Outing.
The board looks forward to kicking off our Fall season with some exciting
programs, starting with a digital print facility tour at TBC Color Imaging.
The board may also explore a program focused on environmental printing &/or
papers. President Shine noted that Central Lewmar Paper has offered to present
on this topic.
New Business: President Shine spoke at length on reaction he has heard from other regional IAPHC chapters in response to the IAPHC announced dues increase. If we are to remain an IAPHC Chapter, the $40.00 portion of our current ($75.00 annual) dues that presently goes to the IAPHC will need to be increased to $100 over the next two years. This will cause our NJ Chapter to increase its total annual dues to approximately $150.00. Also, $7.50 of our dues that now goes toward regional dues will also likely need to be increased. Many chapters (including our own) believe that such a sharp increase will inevitably lead to a significant decline in membership, putting the IAPHC in even greater jeopardy of survival. The board was reminded that the IAPHC was formed to connect the local Craftsmen Clubs, and not to rule their operations. Prior to the announcement, there appears to have been little if any input solicited from the Chapter Presidents. The board feels strongly that our NJ Club possesses the vitality to forge ahead independently of IAPHC, to continue to offer members the quality programming and benefits they’ve come to expect. Reflecting this sentiment of the board, Len Vadala motioned that our club refuse to accept the IAPHC dues increase in its present form. This motion, to reject the IAPHC dues increase was unanimously accepted by the board.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40PM
