The Graphic Professional’s Resource Network
Minutes – Executive Committee
Date: June 2, 2005
Attending: Andy Shine, Steve Gleich, Al Zowada, Alice Lynch, Len Vadala, Paul Lamendola, Jack Blewitt and Mario Benvenuti.
President Andy Shine called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M.
President’s Report: President Shine proudly reflected on the experience of completing his first year as this chapter’s President. He acknowledged the efforts of both our officers and chair members. He cited the need to begin planning for next year, with particular emphasis on the dual needs of generating new members and stimulating interest amongst membership to work with our board. In the coming weeks we look forward to two fun events, our annual Golf Outing and Fathers Day Baseball Game. For information on these events, or regarding interest in participating with future programs, President Shine encourages all to contact him at AMSsunshine@aol.com.
Budget Report: President Shine will call a budget meeting likely to be held in July to assess our year to date performance in meeting our projections and to set our financial goals for next year.
Sergeant-At-Arms Report: There were 41 attendees at the May presentation
by Sappi Fine Paper, of which seven were students.
Membership Report: Several methods were discussed for attracting new members.
Committee Chair Len Vadala would like to notify prospective members by postcard
of upcoming events. This should not only increase attendance for our programs
but could also lead to enticing more guests to join. To stay in touch with
our growing database of program guests Len will solicit assistance from fellow
member Tim Dalton to generate broadcast e-mails to this group. Our chapter
will also rely on IAPHC headquarters staff to provide tools needed for reaching
out to member prospects. Coincidently, IAPHC is near completion of a “member
benefit kit,” for this very purpose.
Programs:
June 14th Annual Golf Outing, Great Bear Country Club, Shawnee, PA
June 19th Fathers Day NJ Jackals Baseball, Yogi Berra Stadium, Montclair State
University
During the summer, the board will meet to brainstorm ideas for next year’s
programs. The activities of other regional chapters will be discussed along
with suggestions brought forth by our members.
Website Report: Paul Lamendola presented his report of advertising revenues
generated from the website.
Al Zowada suggested the formation of a committee to explore options for a
revamping of our website and the potential outsourcing of its maintenance.
Past President Al Zowada offered an alternative (to total website overhaul)
through enhancing our existing linkage on the IAPHC website, to include timely
program updates as well as other variable information specific to the NJ Chapter.
Gallery Report: Committee Chair Steve Gleich reported on progress of Gallery Entries collected to date.
Old Business: Along with the topic of programs, the board’s summer agenda will address methods that can be employed to solicit greater member participation and how we can do a better job of publicizing our activities and programs. It was mentioned that IAPHC also plans to publish a monthly bulletin that might include news and highlights relevant to the NJ Chapter.
New Business:
• The board accepted a motion to raise the program dinner ticket rate for
students from $10 to $15.
• President Shine gave a recap of the 2005 Spring Northeast Regional conference.
Our chapter was also represented by Past Presidents Al Zowada, Paul Lamendola
as well as fellow members Len Vadala and Alice Lynch. In networking with fellow
Craftsmen from neighboring chapters, those who attended realized the tremendous
value their presence afforded them. President Shine spoke of the benefits
we would derive if the budget earmarked the funds necessary to enable members
of the board to attend next year’s conference.
